This breed was designed for bull fighting specially, but when this cruel sport was prohibited in the 19th century the population of these dogs decreased and they became practically extinct. Only enthusiasm of the breed fanciers allowed it to survive and alter its ferocity. Due to careful selection these powerful beasts have turned into affectionate, faithful family companions, which are very peaceful and gentle with small children, but are able to protect the owner and his property.
